The Godot Hall Table

This piece was a custom order for my highschool drama teacher, who reached out to me for a custom hall table/server. I thought it would be appropriate to name the piece, “The Godot” Hall Table as the play, Waiting For Godot (which he taught me) is one of the most influential pieces of art which inspires my own creative style and ideas in furniture design and making.

The off-centered and strange criss-crosses surrounded by a conventional rectangle to make up the side panels, the visible inner parts created by those criss-crosses which allow us to see the functioning of the drawers. These are elements that make this piece seem absurd, yet incredibly cohesive, simple and purposeful, all the while hiding something “complex”-the details. This is what the style of absurdism in any art form is based upon; the strangeness is telling you something more.

If there was a piece that summed up my style of furniture design and making, it’s this one.
