Moon Side Table

A side-table wonderfully suited alongside lounge chairs or in lounge spaces in general.

This piece of furniture is inspired by the moon, more specifically, a rather abstract representation of it in this case.

Another large aspect of my design and stylistic approach to furniture is heavily influenced by abstract and surrealist ideas. The moon side-table is a good example of this for a few reasons. With the overall tone created by French Sycamore, it instantly lends itself to the sort of moon-like colour that it is supposed to represent. This coupled with the sporadic texturing across the surface of the table top as representations of the craters found on the moon, the abstract mimicking of the moon can be subtly revealed.

The stacked base stem is an abstract representation of the distance that the moon has to the earth, yet still being fundamentally connected to our planet. The base stem can be thought of as the gravitational bond we have with the moon.

Although abstract and potentially covert, the mimicking of the moon through this table can be realised if thought about hard enough, which is an aspect of the furniture I design that is fundamental to Wooden Brain Woodworks.
